Well, it’s official now. On May 01, Samsung is launching Q1 UMPC in it’s home market - Korea. Dubbed Samsung Sens Q1, it is the same UMPC as shown off at Cebit.
According to Samsungs representatives, the goal with Samsung Sens Q1 is to create a new market for the small portable device having all PC functions. To make it’s UMPC more attractive it has released a range of new accessories for it and encourages outside vendors to produce even more, with the hope of creating the ecosystem of products similar to Apple’s iPod.
This year Samsung plans to sell 400 000 of UMPC’s,100 000 of which will stay in Korea. Other key markets mentioned by Korean vendor are United States and Australia.
It will be selling for 1,199,000 won which, contrary to some reports is not $2000, but translates into a little over 1200 US$. Samsung Sens Q1UMPC will feature:
Intel’s Celeron M 900Mhz processor
7″ screen
40 GB disc drive
512MB of memory
Wi-fi and Bluetooth connectivity
DMB tuner
Samsung plans to add WiBro connectivity for this UMPC in the future, if the service takes off as planned after it’s launch in Korea later this year.
